Excellent javascript expand/collapse navigation. Written in ‘unobtrusive’ javascript, which means it’s accessible, works cross-browser and is a whole heap better than anything you might find elsewhere. Can also be adapted (I know because I’ve tried it out) to work in places where you can’t call external scripts and therefore need to put the script in the <head> section of your page.

I hate Javascript. Ever since I was messing around one day and got myself stuck in an unending ‘if/for/while’ loop. (My terminology might not be quite accurate, but my annoyance was profound.) JS is like hand grenades: don’t use it unless you really have to; but if you are going to use it, for goodness’ sake learn to use it properly. (Oh, how I love these dramatic analogies.)
